Leafcutter Ant Peru Ecozone: Neotropic Area(s): Amazonas Leafcutter ants can form large colonies in underground nests. They collect leaf material from the forest which they bring back to their nest where it is used to cultivate fungus (Leucocoprinus). The fungus is the sole food of the queen and some of the workers that never leave the nest. |
